Volunteer Forever - Volunteer in Israel

Whether you are interested in experiencing new cultures or you are fascinated by history, Israel belongs at the top of your travel bucket list. It is one of the most extraordinary places on earth, bringing together the beauty of the natural world, astonishing architecture, and a deep, rich culture that spans thousands of years.

Landscapes range from the Negev desert, populated with ibex, to the stunning cliffs of Rosh HaNikra, which overlook the Mediterranean Sea. This tiny country offers a wide variety of experiences, including many opportunities to give back. When you participate in one of these volunteer or internship programs, you can look forward to doing good while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Know Before You Go

As you plan your trip to Israel, it is important to be aware that day-to-day activities and local lifestyles are heavily influenced by Jewish tradition. For example, in many places, a day of rest, Shabbat, is observed from Friday at sunset to Saturday at sunset. While major hubs like the city of Tel Aviv are still abuzz during Shabbat, you can expect other areas of the country to take this time for quiet reflection, prayer, and religious occupations.

One of the highlights of your experience in Israel is sure to be the cuisine. The fresh, hot falafel you eat here will spoil you for the pale imitations available back home, and your understanding of hummus will be changed forever. Keep in mind that prices might be a little higher than you expected, so a bit of extra pocket money will make your adventure a little easier.

Most importantly, you can have confidence that your volunteer experience in Israel will be safe. Despite the frequent news reports that imply otherwise, Israel’s tourism numbers have skyrocketed over the past few years. While you should always take appropriate precautions, such as going out in groups and securing valuables, you can be sure that there is no reason to worry that this adventure is more dangerous than visiting any other area of the world.

Volunteer Forever - Volunteer in Israel

Israel Desert Eco-Construction Project

The southern half of Israel is made up of the desert, but that doesn’t mean there is nothing to see. The area is packed with wildlife, and you have an opportunity to meet members of the nomadic communities that make their home in this terrain. When you participate in the Israel Desert Eco-Construction Project, you will live and work in the Arava Desert. This project relies on you to build and repair structures using eco-friendly materials found in the surrounding land. You will learn construction methods that rely on mud and straw, and you will get your hands dirty reshaping and repairing buildings as needed. These lessons in sustainable construction are sure to inspire new ideas for an environmentally-friendly living when you get home.

Israel Coral Reef Park Ranger Assistant

One of Israel’s greatest treasures is its Coral Beach Reserve. Found in the northern tip of the Red Sea, this area is brimming with gorgeous marine life. Damage to the environment has put the creatures of the Coral Beach Reserve at risk, but when you participate in this project as an Israel Coral Reef Park Ranger Assistant, you can make a difference. You will be responsible for conducting beach observations, as well as maintaining protective equipment, and you will work side-by-side with a park ranger to protect the fragile reef ecology.

Israel Desert Wildlife Reserve

If you prefer to work with animals on land, the Israel Desert Wildlife Reserve project is just right for you. Your time will be spent in the Negev desert region of the country, feeding and cleaning the habitats of endangered species. You will participate in creating enrichment activities for the animals, and you will enjoy plenty of hands-on experience. The Arava wildlife reserve is focused on supporting healthy reproduction of animals that might otherwise be unable to thrive. Your work directly contributes to the preservation of reptiles, small animals and large predators native to this part of the desert.

Israel Hospitality Internship in Jerusalem

Jerusalem is one of the most historically significant cities in the world, and you can gain valuable skills while spending your time exploring every nook and cranny. This Hospitality Internship offers you an opportunity to work right inside a Jerusalem hostel, which welcomes visitors from everywhere you can imagine. You will be responsible for cooking and cleaning, as well as helping your guests plan their excursions. By the time you leave, you will have expertise in the many religious sites found in Jerusalem.
