Are you looking for an opportunity to gain real experience, working with African wildlife? African Conservation Experience organise volunteering placements at genuine wildlife conservation projects in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia. You can join the projects for anywhere from 2-12 weeks, all year round. You’ll be helping out with looking after injured or orphaned wildlife, assisting a wildlife vet, joining field researchers in remote locations, tracking elephants and predators, or helping preserve the beautiful coastal environment on a marine conservation project.

The Wildlife Veterinary Experience gives you the opportunity to gain real hands-on veterinary practice with a variety of African wildlife.
At a Wildlife Care and Rehabilitation Centre you will help hand-rear orphaned wildlife and care for injured animals.
On a Wildlife Research project you can learn real research techniques while observing Africa's amazing wildlife! You can focus on predators and elephants in the wild- or the Big 5 in a safari reserve!
If you are very adventurous, you might want to join the Wildlife capture Team! YOu'll be moving all over South Africa and helping with the relocation of giraffe, buffalo, antelope and rhino.
As a marine conservation volunteer you can help with researching dolphin populations and doing practical conservation of the coastal environment in South Africa.

It was made clear to me on this trip that all these people wanted from me was my money. I was probably a burden to them, they didn't want me there, they just wanted my money. In saying that, I have heard that other vets (other than the blouberg clinic vet) are extremely nice and will actually teach you things about being an exotic vet.

CONTINUED FROM RESPONSE IN REVIEW BELOW...... From the time that you set foot on South African soil you had 24/7 support from our in-country team. They are available to all of our travellers to ensure that they get the most out of their experience. It was not until your day of departure that they heard from you, which meant that they were not given the opportunity to either address your issues or to move you to a project which better matched your expectations. Our vet placements provide valuable hands-on experience to our travellers, many of whom are considering veterinary as a career option or are currently studying veterinary sciences and wish to gain some real experience with African wildlife. We have been working with the vets you were placed with for 8 years and whilst we understand that it was not what you wished it to be, we have received much positive feedback from previous travellers. We do wish you all the best in your future career. Both us, the vets and people on the ground could see your passion and they truly wish you all the best.
