An absolutely fantastic and genuine experience! This is real community service, working alongside locals and learning about the country. It is NOT a glorified teen tour but the real deal, with fun activities and sights woven in very well. The group atmosphere was cohesive and warm, so many close friendships made. Absolute gold standard for true and meaningful community service and a super fun time.

This past summer, I went on an amazing trip with Global Leadership Adventures to Costa Rica! I was fifteen, and I did not know anybody going on the trip with me, so I was essentially alone. In reality, as soon as I got there I was not "alone" at all. Everyone is so supportive and eager to become friends with each other. For me, that kind of environment was the most rewarding part of my trip because I left with close friends and really fun memories with every single person on my trip. When picking a program to go on, I knew I was very interested in environmental sciences and learning more about the environmental problems of our world, so I choose the protecting the Pacific program. On this particular program, we learned about the environmental damages of plastics in our oceans and I know I came home with a better understanding of exactly what I can do to save the environment. We learned all this through leaders who came and spoke, activities to help us consider our environmental effects, and most importantly through service. Everyday our service was focused around ocean cleanups, planting trees, or other natural service forms. My personal favorite was planting trees because even though you get very dirty and tired, there is a reward in knowing you are positively affecting the environment around you. Our home base was amazing, and we had a home cooked meal everyday of local cuisine, such as rice and beans or green papaya. I would recommend GLA for everyone because of how much I grew as a person on my trip and from how life-changing of an experience it is to go and immerse yourself in another culture through serving others.

Okay, I'm not going to lie to you. I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. This trip was the best experience of my entire life so far. Ironically enough, I get home sick for Peru, which is where I traveled with my GLA family and adopted as my home away from home for 2 weeks. I made friends that will last me a life time. I got a whole new take on how privileged I am to live in a first world country. I felt a sense of purpose and was inspired with a desire to continue to give back and make the world a better place. I also greatly improved my leadership skills. I felt independent on this trip to Peru, like I could really be myself and learn more about me. This trip was so much fun as well, whether it was playing cheesy games at home base, white water rafting, or even doing service. The cultural experience was life changing and I loved it so much. I always felt safe, protected and heard. I wouldn't have traded this experience for anything in the world. So much so, that instead of birthday and Christmas presents this year I just asked my relatives to donate money to my next trip that I'm doing this summer, 2019. I am so excited! If you like adventure and are looking to do something amazing this is what I recommend. If I could give it more than 5 stars I absolutely would. Thank you so much to GLA! If you're reading this right now I urge you to check out their website and look at some trips, I promise you won't regret it!

Hi! I am a Global Leadership Adventures Alumni and I had an amazing trip with GLA. I choose Ghana: children of Africa and this was the best experience of my life. In Ghana, we lived in a house that was in the village I volunteered in. There wasn't ever any moment that I felt unsafe. At the age of 15, this was not only my first time traveling into Africa but my first time traveling alone. I feel that I have grown a lot, everything from no longer having a single story of Africa to know how to check in my bags. I didn't know much about the culture. shortly after arriving we got a little history and visited a host family to learn how to speak some Krobo. The program staff were very supportive and were always there to talk if you needed anything. a million words can't begin to explain the love, joy, and so many more emotions from this trip.
