The Napokie Foundation was established in Arusha, Tanzania in 2011 by three Maasai activists and an activist from the United States in a collaborative effort to address the education crisis in Maasai villages in Tanzania. The mission of the Napokie Foundation is to provide culturally-relevant education in Maasai communities in Northern Tanzania through establishing community-directed schools, researching and working with the spiritual leaders to incorporate indigenous knowledge into the curricula, and developing school materials that express Maasai culture, language, and tradition on the nursery, primary, and secondary school level.
