Overview

Overview

Sambhali Trust provides underprivileged Rajasthani women and girls with educational, vocational, and social skills to help them to become confident and financially independent. We specifically work with Dalit women and girls, in Jodhpur or the village of Setrawa who have little or no access to education or basic health services. In addition to helping to break the cycle of poverty and financial dependence on family members, Sambhali Trust gives these women a voice and a support network to nurture their hopes, dreams, and ambitions. Volunteers are vital to the opperation of our programs and services, if you are itnerested in volunteering with us please see our web page for more details: http://www.sambhali-trust.org/.

I'm working at Sambhali Trust for six Months, started in April. I'm so glad I ended up working here, for this organization! The work is of sense, I notice progress and I know that I really help the children and women who I teach, care of or play with. The organization is a total non-profit one, I see that no money is wasted but used where most needed, always and only for the women and children. Take a look at the sambhali website, and if you have any further questions about the work and life here, you can always write me: [email protected]

I am currently volunteering at Sambhali and really loving it! The staff at the charity are really great, and the work we volunteers do really makes a difference with the women that Sambhali works with. The accommodation and food is also good, and so is living in Jodhpur. Jodhpur is really far more beautiful and cultural than the guide books give it credit for!

I volunteered for 2 months at Sambhali, working on 2 projects: in the mornings I taught English and maths to the women who come to Jodhpur empowerment centre and in the afternoons I go to the boarding school. The boarding school is where girls from nearby villages stay during term-time to receive a good education that they would not have in the village. The girls and women are incredible, they have such a desire to learn - I have never heard of people asking for homework before!!!!
The staff and volunteers here are equally passionate. I really appreciate the freedom we get as volunteers - we have the opportunity to run our own workshops and sessions; we are included in the monthly and weekly meetings, where the staff really value our opinions as we are the people with the most contact with the women.
