Though a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), or English as a Second Language (ESL) certificates are not required to teach abroad, they are highly encouraged. A certificate provides several benefits including streamlined VISA requirements, better pay, and more teaching opportunities. When researching certification programs, make sure that they are recognized and accredited.
Great for 3+ mth experiences
Because of the additional requirements of Teaching Abroad versus other international opportunities, many teaching establishments and organizations require longer stays. Typically, they expect a teacher to commit at least 3 months with some more organizations requiring 6 months or even up to a year. Many organizations will offer you a bonus for teaching for longer durations.
