Take a look at this program to empower Sri Lankan women through the English literacy program to give them better chances of employment and confidence. This project only accepts female volunteers. You will be able to meet other solo female volunteers going through the same experience as you. Through this program, you can be a part of a movement to break down education barriers by teaching English. You will lead the lessons, as well as help them practice English speaking skills in creative ways. Each day, you will spend 2 hours teaching and then some time on planning lessons. The longer you are involved, the more you will be able to contribute to the lives of these women and the more meaningful your relationships will become. Located in Galle, you can enjoy this coastal beach town or do nightly yoga sessions, movie times with fellow female volunteers.
For this project in Nepal, volunteers will help teach women, who’ve never had formal education, in a local school with various subjects including English, confidence building, and basic computer skills. These new skills will improve their chances of employment as well as being self-reliant. You will teach 4-5 lessons in these subjects during the week based on your skill sets and background. This involvement will help you understand the discrimination these women face and the help they need. The cost of the project includes accommodation in a dormitory style shared room and three meals a day during the week. Or, consider travel to Costa Rica, which is considered generally safe to travel. You can immerse yourself in a sea turtle conservation on beautiful beaches in Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. You may get to witness a mass sea turtle nesting, specifically the olive ridley sea turtles! Your work may include strolling on the beach to look for sea turtles and nests, protecting sea turtles nesting and hatching, releasing baby sea turtles to the ocean, beach cleanups, and helping to raise awareness on coastal and marine ecosystem conservation. In addition, you may help with research such as data collection, recording, and analysis. In your free time, there are many activities and tours that you take part in and to meet fellow volunteers.
Founded in 2003, Maximo Nivel offers volunteer trips, study abroad programs, internships, teaching opportunities, and Spanish language learning trips to Latin America. Founded in 2015 by Daniel Botha, Surfpop is a South African-based organization that aims to build a sustainable future for vulnerable children from township communities around Muizenberg, Cape Town through a powerful formula of surfing, education and life coaching.
