Overview

Our Mission is to inspire individuals to become global citizens by taking an active interest in the world around them. We hope to achieve this goal by providing unforgettable programs filled with challenging and enriching adventures. Walking Tree stands for a more open, curious and compassionate approach to travel. We facilitate meaningful cross-cultural interactions that allow participants to recognize the similarities between people instead of focusing on the differences. Rather than a typical tour, our programs are designed for a proactive, select group of travelers who seek an authentic international experience and the opportunity to affect change in the global community.

Don’t believe everything you read here. The glowing reviews here were all written by Walking Tree employees. They also lost their rights to use the Smithsonian name and logo, which tells you something about their quality.

I truly believe in Walking Tree Travel because of their dedication to their mission and vision: providing experiences that motivate high school students to become global citizens through engaging and immersive programming around the world. They work around the clock to provide safe, challenging, immersive, culturally sensitive (and FUN!!!) programs for high school students. As a program leader, I value WTT's attention to detail, eagerness to improve program itineraries, and their ability to work with teachers to plan custom programs designed specifically for their own students. I also love how students are encouraged to build community both within their travel group as well as the locations we visit on program. Service is the major focus of many programs, and WTT partners with its host communities to find projects that will allow students to engage with and work side by side with community members. An amazing service opportunity!

I had an amazing experience with Walking Tree Travel/Smithsonian Student Adventures in Costa Rica. We went to a variety of places including a national park, hot springs, small towns, beautiful beaches, and more!

One of my favorite things about traveling with Walking Tree Travel is how immersive they make the experience. We had the opportunity to go to places that average tourists wouldn’t. As a result of this I learned about a lot about the local culture and felt that I had a very unique experience. Also, the guides were incredibly well educated about the places we visited, which helped make each destination even more exciting.

The people I met in Costa Rica were incredibly friendly and I felt safe the entire time I was there. I highly recommend Walking Tree Travel/Smithsonian Student Adventures!

I would strongly recommend Walking Tree Travel/Smithsonian Student Adventures to anyone who desires an authentic travel experience. The variety in the types of programs available offers an unforgettable experience for many types of passionate travelers.

I had the pleasure to travel with WTT/SSA on a service adventure in Peru. The itinerary's unique blend of service and adventure allowed the group's participants to establish meaningful relationships with members of their homestay community and experience this country's amazing cities, landscapes, ruins, and culture.

Travelers on this program highly appreciated the flexibility of the itinerary, allowing spontaneity and enthusiasm for a particular aspect of the journey to be explored and enjoyed, while adhering to the safety and well-being of the group. This is an incredible organization whose program enriched the lives of everyone involved.

Walking Tree Travel/ Smithsonian Student Adventures (WTT/ SSA) provides some of the most unique travel experiences for students and teachers alike. I recently returned from a conservation program in Costa Rica, and have to say that every detail of the trip was not only well planned, but was truly an authentic experience. I would recommend WTT and SSA to any student or teacher wishing to achieve the full effect of being immersed into a new world.
